St George’s Choir

The St George’s Choir has always been a cherished part of our church life, enriching services with beautiful sacred music.

Founded in 1944 by Jack Evans, it has gone on to be led by inspiring musicians, including David Carolane AOM, whose leadership in the 1960s and ’70s brought the choir to new heights and shaped the sound of St George’s for years to come.

Today, the tradition continues. The choir sings at our 10am Sunday services and at special events and festivals throughout the year, offering a blend of classic choral repertoire and contemporary sacred music.

Our Organist

Oscar Herrick

St George’s Parish is delighted to have Oscar Herrick as our musical director and organist.

Oscar’s last position was Organ Scholar at All Saints’ East St Kilda: a prestigious position afforded only to musicians of rare talent, flair and commitment.

He is an accomplished performer and organ technician, working at Pipe Organs Australia with Daniel Dittner. The firm is widely recognised as the premier curator of organs throughout the country.

Oscar is experienced in the form of service we follow; is knowledgeable in, and committed to, the Parish’s choral tradition; and appreciates fully the quality of the organ which we are privileged to possess.

Jazz Vespers

Jazz Vespers occurs several times a year on a late Sunday afternoon, with “St George’s Joyful Jazzmen” led by our own talented and professional Peter McKay on keyboard. Dancing, jigging, clapping and smiling are almost inevitable, and encouraged, and the service followed by light refreshments.

Evening Grace: a time of Prayer, Praise and Peace

Experience the tranquillity of Evensong at St George’s, a beloved tradition that provides a serene escape from the stresses of the day. Our service, enhanced by the wonderful harmonies of our choir, invites you to pause and find comfort in the soothing embrace of music, scripture, and prayer.
