EVENSONG
What is Evensong?
Evensong is a peaceful, contemplative service of evening prayer, drawn from centuries of Anglican tradition. Held as day turns to night, it blends scripture, ancient prayers, and exquisite choral music into a gentle rhythm of worship.
At the heart of the service are the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis—timeless canticles that remind us of God’s presence and faithfulness. The choir’s music, becomes a prayer in itself, soothing, stirring, and deeply moving.
Evensong at St Georges
Though less common today, Evensong remains a beautiful and contemplative service.
At St George’s, Evensong includes psalms and anthems sung by the choir, choral responses, and canticles such as the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. Congregational participation is gentle, with communal singing of the psalm encouraged but not required.
Instead of a sermon, we often feature a short reflection by a guest speaker on a figure or theme of spiritual or cultural significance—ranging from poets and scientists to saints and social thinkers.
Evensong begins at 5:00 pm, with light refreshments to follow.
Please check the parish website or bulletin for upcoming dates.
All are warmly welcome.
