St George\u2019s began in 1929 as an outreach of St James\u2019s, Ivanhoe. The Parish was officially formed on 1 December 1959, with the Rev. H.R. Bailey serving as the first Vicar. During his ministry from 1959 to 1961, the Parish Chapel and Hall\u2014later named Evans Hall\u2014were completed. From 1961 to 1968, under the leadership of the Rev. Norman Hill, plans for a new church were developed by architects Frederick Romberg and Robin Boyd and were presented on 15 May 1962. The foundation stone was laid on 8 December 1963, and the Church was dedicated by the Most Rev. Dr. Frank Woods, Archbishop of Melbourne, on 7 November 1964. Over the years, St George\u2019s has emphasized community involvement, including the establishment of a Memorial Garden and various environmental initiatives such as the Water Saving Project and the Solar Panel Project.
