Amen!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>INTRODUCTION<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> Some of us may remember a popular song, many moons ago, of which the first line in each of the four stanzas of the song is: \u201cIf you loved me half as much as I love you\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(written by Hank Williams)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Today\u2019s Gospel reading commences with Jesus saying: \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u><b>If <\/b><\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">you love me,\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:15)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Do we love God \u201chalf as much as He loves us?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> When we were children, because we loved our parents we obeyed them. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Let us reflect on Jesus\u2019 statement\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u>\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">IF YOU LOVE ME\u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">(<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">John 14:15)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">It is in this same sense that we love our Lord and obey His commands because He has demonstrated His love for you and I and everyone in the world through His death on the Cross to set us free from our sin and guilt. Our Lord said: \u201dNo one has greater love than this, to lay down one\u2019s life for one\u2019s friends.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 15:13)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">St. John wrote in his epistle, \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>We love (God)<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> because <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>He first loved us<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(1 John 4:19)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Love is what we see in the Cross.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(\u201cReflections\u201d, Volume 3, p.523, Leon Morris)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Hopefully, our parents demonstrated their love for us &#8211; <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u><b>to <\/b><\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">us and we, therefore, loved <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>them<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> in return.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">God demonstrated His love first for us, through Jesus on the Cross, and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>we love Him<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> in return.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">In the Gospel passage before us today, Jesus said: \u201cand those who love Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love them and reveal Myself to them.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:21)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">God\u2019s very nature, His very essence, is <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><b>LOVE! <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">William Barclay says in explanation of this passage of Scripture: \u201cFellowship with God and the revelation of God are dependent on love; and love is dependent on obedience. The more we <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>obey<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> God, the more we understand Him; and the person who walks in <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>His<\/u><\/span><\/span><u> <\/u><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>way<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> inevitably walks <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>with<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> Him.\u201d <\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(The Gospel of John, The Daily Bible Study, p. 169, William Barclay) <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">As children, when we obeyed our parents, we felt a unity with them; there was a bond of love through our obedience to them. It is similar to this when we obey God and obey Jesus\u2019 Commandments, we walk in unity with our Lord and there is a tangible sense that our Lord is with us &#8211; \u201cHe abides with us.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Jesus, the Son of God challenges us, \u201cDo we love Him?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Let us reflect on:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><u>\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">JESUS\u2019 COMMANDMENTS.\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201cIf you love Me\u2026\u201d said Jesus. \u201cYou <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>will keep<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> my <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>commandments<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d Jesus says later in the Gospel passage appointed for today: \u201cThey who have my commandments and keep them are those who love Me.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:21)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Well we might ask: \u201cWhat are Jesus\u2019 Commandments, remind me of them, so that I <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>can<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> keep them?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">You might recall that in many situations, e.g., in the armed Services, a \u201ccommand\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>has<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> to be abided by without question<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">In the Gospel according to St. Mark, in response to the question asked by a scribe: \u201cWhich commandment is the first of all?\u201d Jesus answered: \u2019The first is this, \u2018Hear O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> the Lord your God with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> your <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>heart<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">, and with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> your <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>soul,<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> your <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>mind<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">, and with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> your <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>strength<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u2019 The second is this, \u2018You shall <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love your neighbor as yourself<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d There is <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>no other commandment greater than these<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d Then the Scribe said to Him, \u201cYou are right. Teacher; you have truly said that \u2018He is one, and besides Him there is no other\u2019; and to <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love Him with all the heart<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all the understanding,<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all the strength<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">,\u2019 and to <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love one\u2019s neighbor as oneself<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">,\u2019 &#8211; this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.\u201d When Jesus saw that He answered wisely, He said to him, \u201cYou are not far from the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(Mark 12:28-34)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Jesus\u2019 \u201cNew Commandment\u201d is stated a little later on in this Gospel according to St. John, when He says: \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>This is My Commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 15:12) <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>\u201cIf you love Me you will keep My commandments\u2026\u201d Jesus said.<\/u><\/span><\/span><u> <\/u><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:15)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> \u201cThe principle observance of <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>commandments <\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">through the motive of love is a revolutionary advance over the Jewish approach to the Mosaic Law.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(New Bible Commentary, Third Edition, p.958)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> In a nutshell, Jesus\u2019 commandments are to love God with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>al<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">l our <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>heart, mind, strength and our neighbor as we love our self<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and Jesus\u2019 \u201cnew commandment,\u201d is: \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>Love one another a I have loved you<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> In the beautiful little book, \u201cMister God This Is Anna\u201d, the little girl, Anna, wisely encapsulates Jesus\u2019 commandments, when she says, \u201cAnd God said, love Me, love them, and love it, and don\u2019t forget to love yourself.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(Mister God, This Is Anna,\u201d p.31+32, Fynn) <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Jesus said: \u201cIf you love Me you <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>will keep my commandments.<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Loving Christ and keeping His commandments are inseparable. Moreover Christ\u2019s love for us is the basis of His self revelation to us.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(New Bible Commentary, Third Edition, p.959)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> Jesus said: \u201cIf you love Me you <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>will keep My commandments.<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:15) <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Jesus is challenging us, personally, to move forward in our faith and trust in Him and to let go and love Him with a passion, and love one another, obeying His commandments with joy and freedom?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">Let us reflect on: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>THE ADVOCATE<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> So, if we love our Lord, we will keep His commandments. Jesus makes a further promise to us, saying: \u201cAnd I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, to be with you <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>forever<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor Knows Him. You know Him, because <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>He abides<\/u><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>with<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> you, and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>He will be in you<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:17)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">At our Anglican Confirmation Service, when the Bishop lays hands on the Candidates heads, the prayer is prayed that we will receive the Holy Spirit to strengthen us for our walk of faith as Christians.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> \u201cThe Advocate\u201d is another name for the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, our Triune God whom we worship. Jesus\u2019 promise is that those who <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love Him<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and who <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>obey His commandments<\/u><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>will receive the \u201cAdvocate<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201d &#8211; the \u201cSpirit of truth.\u201d The \u201cAdvocate\u201d is God, Himself, in the form of the Holy Spirit, Who will come to us to help us. He is the Spirit of Truth and will <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>guide us<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> into <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>all truth<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> and understanding about God and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> In explaining the work of the Holy Spirit, the New Bible Commentary says: \u201cThis is the first of five important statements regarding the Holy Spirit in these Discourses. The Greek word translated \u2018parakletos\u2019 includes the idea of one called in to help, but is not to be restricted to a legal advocate. The more general idea of counseling better expresses the meaning. The Counselor\u2019s help is not intermittent, but continuous.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(New Bible commentary, Third Edition, p.959)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> In the following chapter of this Gospel, 16, Jesus says: \u201cWhen the Spirit of truth comes, He will <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>guide you into all truth.<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 16:13)<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> What \u201ctruth\u201d are we humans seeking in the sense of our soul\u2019s longing? We are seeking the \u201ctruth\u201d about God, to know God? Jesus said in last week\u2019s Gospel, \u201dI am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:6) <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>CONCLUSION<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> Jesus said: \u201cIf you <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love Me<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> you <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>will keep My commandments.<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, because He abides with you, and will be in you.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14:15-17)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> In the last chapter of this Gospel according to St John, in one of Jesus\u2019 resurrection appearances, after Jesus and the disciples with Him had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Peter three times, \u201cDo you love Me.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 21:15f)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> Today\u2019s appointed Gospel reading commences with Jesus saying to us all: \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>If you love Me you will keep My commandments<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\">\u2026.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(John 14: 15f)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"> The Son of God challenges us all in His words to us in the Gospel today to: <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u>love Him and God our heavenly Father with <\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u><b>all<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', serif;\"><u> our hearts, minds and strength and to love our neighbor as we would love ourselves.
